It was decided pre-season after discussions about how the old rules were leading to predictable outcomes.

w/e. Maybe this is something we should implement in Australian Stranded.

Anyway, glad I won. Pretty simple strategy: Give the rest of the players no information by guessing the same number every round. All they will know is that you are not that number.
