Wrap up on the last Episode before the merge - yesterday's boot was all about two things;
-Shawna and how she's mismanaged her position
-Rob jumping back, trying to throw, and putting the cross-tribal F6 deal to Christy and Joanna

I feel like I'll never finish this ranking, I have to adjust it again after last night's event. But I absolutely will post it before I open a single Merge Tribe PM (I can't anyways, till Jeff tweaks the permissions :P)

Yesterday the ranking was;
16 Daniel < 15 Butch <14 Ryan < 13 Ken < 12 Jan < 11 Jake < 10 Jeanne < 9 Helen < 8 Christy < 7 Brian < 6 Rob < 5 Erin < 4 Ted < 3 Penny < 2 Shawna < 1 Joanna

But what we're really interested in here is Shawna. Saved draft from yesterday said;
Quote:

Quote:
Shawna (Confessional): We'll i have to use the weapons i have.
I have actually been behaving very modestly.

If anything, Shawna might be playing too hard right now. She's sitting in what I call the 'majority shareholder' position between the intertwining alliances of the Bitches of Eastwick (SJC), the Pimp & Ho's (DSJC), and Jeanne's STDs (JSTD). This is a great position if you can handle it - it should leave her with a lot of options later - but I'm not sure if she can icon_uhoh Her easy-going, flirty board presence & PM style has Daniel & Jeanne wrapped around her little finger (and Ted too to an extent) but the strain is already beginning to show on her 'true' alliance in that Joanna & Christy know exactly what she's doing, and are beginning to mistrust her for it.

But credit where it's due, with Joanna treading a little on the indecisive side and Christy falling asleep at the wheel, the smoothness of Ryan's boot was all Shawna's work. Leaving Asteria heading into the merge with a united tribe instead of a divided one should they win tonight. And this is despite only finding out about Rob's throwing the challenge plan after the fact.

So she's playing a risky game strategically, and it'll most likely come back to bite her right on her cute butt, but at least she's playing hard.

***
These are mostly notes for myself for later, because there was a lot of shit went down yesterday, so excuse if this is a weirdly formatted.

Dan vs Jeanne
And indeed, Shawna overplayed like fuck. Her main motivations is to try keep Jeanne alive, because Jeanne is a predictable pocket vote for Shawna specifically (where Dan & Ted aren't), and secondly to get Ted booted pre-merge because she is afraid of his connections/challenge strength/true intentions.

To 'test' the loyalties of Daniel, and to try assure Christy/Joanna of her own true loyalties, she tells Daniel that the majority alliance is Dan/Shawna/Jeanne/Ted is now running the show. She tells Joanna that if Daniel doesn't come running back with this info, then they need to drop him instead of Ted. She neglects to tell Christy this before the fact, making her seem even more shifty to Christy.

Daniel knows which side his bread is buttered on and indeed comes back to Joanna & Christy both with the info that Shawna is being fishy. This combined with J/C's mistrust of Shawna's powerhungry plays has helped Dan climb the totem a little. Dan is loyal to these two more than to Shawna, and Christy holds the power on this tribe - not Shawna - doubly so when Rob returns. Dan has cockroached his way into being safe yet again.

Rob's Return
Rob jumps back and immediately tries to get Christy/Joanna to throw the challenge. They flat out refuse to do so without good reason. They don't even allow him to play. After they lose, they discuss the possibility of booting him there and then. Who knows what connections he's made? He may be too powerful right now. And the votes are there too, if they want them. Jeanne would love it. Shawna would do it to keep Jeanne safe, Dan is their bitch now. Ted is playing for Ted.
Rob fully lays out the F6 deal to C/J and that Erin has an idol that would be used against them. Christy/Joanna decide to keep him for now to at least see where this deal leads. It's a good thing thy kept it to themselves, because Jeanne/Shawna were discussing the possibility of booting Rob too and could have run with it to Dan/Ted if they were faster thinkers.

In the end the vote defaults to Jeanne, with Christy again being the thrust behind getting a united vote together just before the PM block deadline. Without Christy's leadership, no doubt this vote would have settled on Ted, since his name was the one most players were happy with earlier. Part of the reason she pushed the target off of Ted was because he has undoubtedly some connections that might assist them with this new possible cross tribal arrangement.

A few quotes to match the above;

Players wrote:
Shawna (to Joanna): The person i want with us the most is Jeanne, she's by far the most reliable (in terms of voting the way we want) of the three of them, i say that in this scenario the person to go is Ted, but i'm willing to listen to your ideas about it.

Joanna (to Christy): Think about it do we really need him(Ted)? We already have a solid majority. He is a huge challenge competitor and we are getting to the merge. He might have the idol or is at least onto what he has to do. He was able to pick up that he was on the outs of his tribe and mutiny which means he is smart and knows how to read people. He has flipped once so he probably won't be afraid to do it again. He was in with the people on the other side which is a huge advantage come merge. It's getting close to the merge and we might have to start making the bigger moves.

Christy (to Joanna): I feel like Ted is more of on our side than Jeanne is.I don't know if we can control her. And I don't want to put my faith in the hands of Jeanne of all people. Or Shawna for that matter - Ted staying is more power to us.
Joanna (to Christy): I understand that Jeanne is a wild card I really do, but Ted literally NEVER talks to me... :/

Shawna (to Christy): Oh Ted's just tight lipped, that's good but it is not working in his favor right now.
Look in the long run we have to get rid of Rob right?
It would be best for us if we had Jeanne with us because she would not ally with Rob or Daniel unless she really had no alternative.
Ted seemed shift allainces and also to work with someone from Helios after the merge, now he could just be humoring me, but the fact that he's smart enough to know that's the right thing to do makes him dangerous in the long run.
I would rather get rid of either Ted or Dan and keep Jeanne with us because she would be very loyal after the merge.

***

Shawna (to Joanna): And i told Daniel that, me, him, Jeanne and Ted are the majority vote now, If he doesn't go to you or Christy with this info we know he can't be trusted and flush him, if he does go to either of you we have him in our pocket. icon_biggrin
Joanna (to Shawna): Lol thats a really good idea actually kudos~ icon_wub
Thats why your my numba one gurll

Daniel (to Joanna): Shawna is trying to weasel her way into a dominant, majority alliance while EXCLUDING you and Christy. Here's what she sent me earlier:
"Jeanne is allied with us now, we have You/Me/Ted/Jeanne right now we are the majority vote."
What should we do?

Joanna (to Daniel): OMG you're awesome <3 Thanks so much for telling me. Shawna had just told me about it and it's to keep Ted (and to a lesser extent Jeanne) comfortable and not mutiny or flip come merge. We are still majority and more importantly, you're my #1. You telling me this even though I already knew solidifies it <3

Christy (to Joanna): Now she's telling me that she wants to do Ted OR Dan.
And now Dan is telling me, about the foursome I already knew about.

She is in overplaying mode.

Joanna (to Christy): It's fine. She has been overplaying for a while now but we got to let her think she is in charge. It's not worth putting everyone in a clusterfuck before the merge. Who do you want to go?

Joanna (to Daniel): Well yeah technically Shawna is still in our original four person alliance, we are just a little more wary of her.
Daniel (to Joanna): She needs to fucking cool her tits. She's overplaying way too much.
Joanna (to Daniel): LOL that's exactly what Christy said. She so is but we just can't let her know that we know because then she'll freak the fuck out and God knows what she'll do.

Christy (to Daniel): Yeah, Joanna told me too. Shawna is overplaying way too much. If we let her think she's in charge...
If she feels this secure to doubledeal constantly, she won't flip. But tonight's main objective should be to win.

***

Shawna (to Jeanne): I don't want to be overconfident but i think we are in a good position.

***

Daniel (to Christy): Alright, Rob just mutinied back. Did you know he was doing this the whole time? o_O
Christy (to Daniel): He may or may not have told me... and he may or may not asked me to keep it as a secret
Daniel (to Christy): Heh, I knew it. There had to be a plan for him flipping and us throwing the challenge. He was always going to mutiny to scout out Helios, wasn't he?

Rob (to Joanna): THROW THIS CHALLENGE - TRUST ME
Joanna (to Rob): no not unless you give me a reason
Rob (to Joanna): I made a deal with Brian and Helen but they both have to survive and they can only do that if they're. Not at TC.
Joanna (to Rob): You know I can't do that. I wasn't present and I haven't even talked to them. It's way to much of a risk for me.
Rob (to Joanna): But you trust me, right? We'll talk more after the challenge, but Brian and Helen need to be here.
Joanna (to Rob): I trust you. But I can't throw this challenge. You've been with them what two days? I can't go off of that.
Rob (to Joanna): Two days is a long time, and they are desperate. You really think Ted is more valuable than two free, desperate votes?

Rob (to Christy): THROW THIS CHALLENGE - TRUST ME
Christy (to Rob): Explain
Rob (to Christy): You and I are in the F4 but only if Bbrian and Helen survive and they'll only survive if they don't have to go to TC.
Christy (to Rob): I don't want to go the F4 with Brian and Helen. So this means that Penny or Erin got the idol?
Rob (to Christy): Trust me, you do. And yes.
Christy (to Rob): Let's say we lose tonight, and vote out TED (yes, Ted, because everyone but me wants to do that) - 6-4.
There's an idol at the other side, but let's say we voute out Penny and Erin back-to-back. - 6-2
If we flip - 4-4 . That's risky if you ask me.

Rob (to Christy): I made a deal with them and it includes Joanna.
Christy (to Rob): But does Joanna want to go along?
Rob (to Christy): Even if she doesn't, we're still fine. Trust me. It is all worked out. You don't have to agree to it but I need more time to explain, like after the challenge. It's a great opportunity but if one of them leave it's gone.
Christy (to Rob): I'm not going to jump the gun without explanation. Sorry.
Rob (to Christy): I can explain after the challenge, but there's no time to explain right now. I really wish you would just trust me.
Christy (to Rob): I trust you. I don't trust Brian and Helen. You're not competing now anyway. Please.

Christy (to Joanna): Rob wants to throw this challenge.
Joanna (to Christy): dude wtf we cant
Christy (to Joanna): ik, I'm not throwing
Joanna (to Christy): and he's not playing.
Joanna (to Christy): he made a deal with brian and helen. he's gotta go if we lose.

Rob (Confessional): when I asked Christy and Joanna to throw the challenge they both said no and told me to stfu.

Christy (to Joanna): Do you want to vote for Rob?
Joanna (to Christy): idk what do you think? he might have valid info
Christy (to Joanna): What do you mean?
Joanna (to Christy): like he might have info about who has idol etc alliance etc idk

Rob explains Deal to Christy
Christy (to Rob): Ok. Sounds good. This deal is fabolous indeed. I'll fill you in what happened here and give a muchmuch-more detailed answer later on.
Now - vote for Jeanne, and Ted won't go. You, him, me and Joanna.

***

Jeanne (to Shawna): I have an ominous feeling, about getting ousted....

Shawna (to Christy): I still think we should go for Ted.
But whichever you guys decide is ok i guess..

All is not lost though Shawna fans, she knows what she did was foolish and she promises to try lay a little lower ..for now..

Shawna (Confessional): Well my position is much worse now than it was before the merge, right now my destiny isn't in my own hands so i have to lay low, or at least try lol. My post-merge strategy would be to gun for whichever of the immunity threats doesn't win immunity, but i'll have to follow the lead from my allies and hope my name doesn't come up.

All this stuff I already saw and knew and its certainly interesting. I think things look much, much better for Helen and Brian, but not so much for Erin and Penny. Their fate really comes down to if a Helios wins immunity and Ted wants to force a tie and work with them.

The Asteria TC was embarrassing. I'm so annoyed with the bulk of them. They are so boring in public, but so scattered through PMs. Ryan and Jeanne's boots could've been interesting in retrospect but they just never panned out because both are deadbeats.

Before I even start, can I just say that I'm pretty amazed at how correct the casting is here. There is very little schtick or in-character acting at all, yet everyone is pretty much spot on.

Let's see now; Brian is cold and unnattached, Helen is overly complicating everything (and both solid players), Jan is a loveable ditz with one or two solid connections, Ted is self-absorbed, Penny is full of herself, Ken is getting a forced positive edit, Jake is as caring and selfless as you could want & Erin is a sweetheart with no idea where she actually lies in the grand scheme of things.

From Asteria's stable; Shawna's a flirt, Jeanne is ever so slowly getting to grips, Joanna is fierce as fuck, Chrsty is a complex positive force (but secretly a bit of a bitch), Butch is just a touch loopy, Daniel is godawful and I can never remember Ryan. Rob was the only one not doing it for me, but he's done a full 180 since the mutiny in terms of character - and he was a last minute replacement - Jeff, you have a gift.

Pre Merge Boots

Butch would have frustrated me as a player for the exact same reasons Christy made him the first boot. Type in proper English please! Yet at the same time, the way he writes one long run on sentence and is iphone autocorrecting (I hope) all over the place is giving him a very distinct kooky personality, which I'm enjoying as a host.

Still, he became a very easy boot amongst some terrible competition once he revealed he was posting from his iPod. Missing TC sealed the deal.

Players wrote:

Christy (to Joanna): He (Daniel) already made a better impression on me than Butch.
God I really want to boot him. I mean, Shawna is not here, but I can't imagine her being worse than Butch. And he's on his phone, which is a big liabilty, IMO.

Joanna (to Christy): Yeah I was thinking that too. If you can't get computer access then that is a big issue. I mean Jeanne is a big liability too because of an obvious language barrier but I think she might be improving. Ugh its soo tough when multiple people suck lol

Butch (Confessional): I think I'm doing good with the people I've talked to so far I think that there focused alot more on the three that didn't show but if I outlast them that'll definatly be enough time to get in with my tribe:) I think Ill be alright after all!

Jan (TC): For the other tribe it was easier, Butch barely posted at all so they just voted him out.

Christy (TC): I'm going to go ahead and propose Butch. Even when he was here, he was on his phone. And that's going to hurt us in challenges. That's it.

Butch's Final Words wrote:
my short time in the game was fun but I felt like I was climbing a mountain with 100 pound weights tied to my face and ik right from the beginning it looked bad when I didn't showup and after I didn't make it to tribal they were smart in voteing me out

Ryan had a hint of a head on his shoulders. His later confessionals & PMs indicated that he realised he was on the bottom of the Asteria totem, and he planned to use the day between Challenge & TC to talk to the people at the bottom (that didn't know they are) and band them together. But why did he wait a full week of the game?? Nobody will cut a deal with a scrambler if they can avoid it - they will always stick with the people they've built a bond with unless you have a huge carrot. The carrot was there in that all of Jeanne/Ted/Daniel were on the outs, but he needed a bigger picture than he had to know this, and he hadn't done enough talking previously to know where he needed to put the pressure.

So Ryan had a little potential, but he's also suffered from the same 'not PMing enough' factor as the other pre-merge boots, and by the time he decided to do something about it, it was always going to be very hard for him to get into the game at all.

Players wrote:
Ryan (Confessional): I didn`t do much just kind of sat back and observed and tried to get a feel for everything.

Rob (to Helios): That's all I can say about Ryan because that's literally the only words he has ever said to me. He has also never shown up to a challenge.

Ryan (TC): You can never know exactly how others are perceiving you and where you fit in.

Christy (Confessional): It seems like I'll get my way with booting Ryan. He's just completely useless to me.

Ted (Vote): You don't deserve what's coming your way tonight.

Ryan's Final Words wrote:
I got unfinished business. If given another chance I would play this game like a madman and take no prisoners.

IDK what to make of Ken really. I think he came into the game with an overly cautious approach. Every time he tried to fly the flag for tribal unity, it came off as more and more suspicious. Only Jake fully trusted him I think, and was toying with the idea of a all-male alliance but didn't get it together in time. He probably would have survived the night of his boot at Jan's expense had he not tried to oust Ted - ironically he was suspicious of Ted taking the clues, and people were happy enough to write Ken's name down for pretty much that exact reason icon_lol

Plus again, very little PM activity, he nearly talked exclusively with Brian & Ted at the start. By the time he added Jake and Helen to his chatmates it was already too little too late. He tried to argue his case against Jan, who replied that she was more social than Ken, and I laughed at the time. Yet now I think of it, it was really Jan's bond to Erin that may have saved her - the same Erin that Ken neglected to PM even once in the game - so Jan may very well have been right. icon_surprised

Players wrote:
Ken (Confessional): Right now the person I get along best with, is Brian. I talk to Ted a little but, but I am suspicious of him. I wont point any fingers though. For one, I have no absolute proof who took the deal. Secondly, if I point fingers at people, they might think I am trying to deflect the target off of myself, so I am just going to let it go, for now.

Brian (Confessional): You can’t expect to stay safe in a Survivor game if you only talk to two people and tell one of these people you don’t trust the other.

Ted (Confessional): I'd bet Ken will start pointing fingers at others. If a third person takes it, that would be hilarious. People will start to confuse this game with Cluedo in seconds. Personally, I would attempt to blame Ken in the shelter with the machete.

Erin (Confessional): Anytime someone talks about the clues to the HII, Ken responds in a very suspicious manner. When we were talking about the plan to share the idol clues, he seemed hesitant. Very suspicious...

Ted (Vote): You are legitimately the most annoying person I have come across in this game. I can't stand your constant talk of the Asteria tribe's dynamics, and to be perfectly frank, I can't stand you. I'm almost 100% certain you fancy yourself as such a strategist that you've been taking the idols for the last two rounds, and that pisses me off to no end. If you really wanted to get to know the inner workings of the Asteria tribe dynamics, you should have joined them today. You're a dolt, and you need to get off the Helios island right now. - Sincerely, Ted Rogers Jr.

Ken's Final Words wrote:
My only regret was not being more vocal about my distrust of Ted. If we had more time to talk about how to vote I could have defended myself better.

That being said, I love his continued interest in the game and his activity levels in LL is the driving force thats pushing the rest of the pre-jurors hang around so big time kudos for that.

Jan had some wonderful moments in this game - trying to suggest Ted for every answer when he wasn't eligable for any, 'starting a fire' with her granny glasses, mixing up Ken & Ted for her vote, wanting to vote for Ted even though he was on the other tribe etc, - but for me she just didn't do anything much strategically to deserve a higher ranking. I have to presume she is a fan of Survivor, so she really should know that a one-on-one deal with Erin, and a loose bond or two elsewhere is just not going to be enough to get far in this game.

Players wrote:
Erin (Confessional): I feel that Jan's easier to manipulate and that she would be most loyal to me. That being said, I don't really know how she really feels about me.

Jan (Confessional): Actually my vote wasn't suppose to go to Ted, it was actually for Ken. I was in a bit of a rush to get the vote over with that i confused there names together

Ken (TC): I htink Jan was one of the weaker links. Like you said she was a bit ditzy and kept guessing Ted ans an answer even though we all knew he was excluded.

Jan (Confessional): i should probably take a stand and volunteer at the next challenge, if course i know i wont let my team down. It's just i felt like i didn't do anything helpful in the last challenge and i wanna do something to prove them that i'm worthy of staying here.

Jan (TC): lol dutzy me <3

Jake (Vote): I'm so sorry Jan, I love you to death, but overall in challenges you can be a bit of a liability. Good luck with everything and I hope to see you on the otherside.

Two words for Jeanne - learning curve - and boy did she pick it up fast. Strategically she was kept in the dark, but afask she had played herself into a sweet spot.

Decent enough in the challenges when the rest of them allowed her. A laffo's feud with Rob. That strange quirk, of putting, inappropriate commas into her, sentences gave her a spot-on 'Jeanne' board presence too. I got a kick out of how she embraced her sneaky side for the Ryan vote, Slowly built a bond with Shawna, and was working how she could on the rest. And like I said in her goodbye thread - a true team player for Asteria - maybe the only one on that beach?

If only she had made the merge, we could have found ourselves with a bridge-burner on our hands. And she nearly did too, if it wasn't for Rob's flip back I believe the vote would have stayed on Ted. Ultimately though, she was just a little out of the loop to the true goings on of anything.

Players wrote:

Rob (Confessional): But good GOD do I hate Jeanne. I don't really even know what it is, it's pretty irrational at this point, but I cannot stand her.

Jeanne (Confessional): I dont like the guy, but he is very valuable to the tribe.

Joanna (Confessional): Jeanne is seriously a mystery sometimes I feel like she’s playing us all.

Jeanne (TC): I realize i have made errors, but plan to make amends with my future actions in the tribe. I really hope that my tribemates will give me credit for being there with them...

Shawna (Confessional: It was sad to see her leave, i actually liked her, tried my best to save her but it wasn't meant to be

Jeanne's Final Words wrote:
The other Asteria members saw how quickly I learned, and excelled, and it clearly frightened them going into the merge. Asteria is making a big mistake with Rob. Overall, I cannot be upset with how it went down, its the nature of this thing.

Strategically, Jake ranks above Jan because he was at least trying to make some moves, it's not really his fault he was both hoodwinked by Brian & sent Ted packing with a misread message. But again, like Jan & Ken before him, he simply wasn't doing enough socially - to all but ignore Penny and Erin even when his tribe was down to five players standing just isn't going to cut it on a tribe that small.

What Jake brought to the game emotionally was pretty beautiful I have to say. It's a rare thing to see a player so torn up over a vote - and then that heartfelt apology to Helen followed. I believe that was truly written from the heart, where other players might have written it as a 'tactic' which is simply adorkable. Again, credit to your casting Jeff, Thailand's 'Erin's Boot' episode was one of the truly touching moments in Survivor, and Stranded Jake was every bit as empathy-driven.

I have to say he's the one boot so far I really regret, watching him struggle ethically with his decisions if he got into the later rounds would have been a emotional rollercoaster. Watching the confusion set in when he rejoined with Ted would also have been laffos.

I'm also quite glad he got to prove himself as a challenge contributor in the counting challenge.

Players wrote:
Jake (TC): It really pains me to vote out anyone. I have only known them for a few days but I honestly love them all and I feel really bad right now.. :(

Brian (Confessional): Jake acts like he doesn’t really understand this game and is trying to figure it out. I think he is genuinely struggling trying to adapt to the board, but I also feel like he’s smarter than he is leading on as far as strategy goes

Ted (Confessional): I'm leaving this tribe because Jake is a liar. I don't trust him a single iota. I got a PM from Brian, the subject of which was: "Re: are you for ted?" addressed to me and Jake. The text of it was about how he thought Ken was "fishier" than me.

Then, what do you know, I get a vote (probably from Jake) about how "fishy" I am. Coincidence? I think not.

That is why I'm pissed off and want to leave the tribe. I don't like Jake.

Helen (Vote): This is the toughest vote yet, but we need a strong tribe. I'm terribly sorry and hope you understand.

Jake's Final Words wrote:
I feel like I left at a perfect time. The two tribes weren't feuding at all (which I was getting REALLY tired of) and it felt good for me to be at peace in the game. I did my part in the challenge pretty much perfectly and our tribe was super united, even at TC. I just felt really at peace that night.

There is one piece of advice that stands true for all six pre-merge boots they should take heed of if/when they play again, and that is that they all need to PM more. PM everyone you can, as much as you can. Only by having the most information possible can you hope to actually maneuver yourself around the game, and without the fullest picture available, you are handicapping yourself before you even start.
