First off, can I just say I fucking love being able to snoop the PMs - you get so much more info there than from the confessionals. I just wish it was a little easier to navigate.

So over on Asteria there is a strong active core of Christy/Rob/Joanna. Not yet an official threesome but it's kinda inevitable outcome as the game stands.

Christy has the idol already icon_surprised

which is impressive off of just one clue. She's canny enough to keep that news to herself for now, and secure enough to not have to play it anytime soon. Which is all fine and dandy, but should someone else figure out the password and get into the empty forum it may cause trouble.

Rob & Christy have firmed up an alliance - "The Christy & Rob Show", pretty much based on competence levels rather than any great bond, but in Christy's confessional she's already doubting the legitimacy of his intentions, while in Rob's he's plotting to rope Joanna in as a third, but to make sure she's closer to himself than Christy. What he doesn't know is that Joanna/Christy are probably the tightest pairing on Asteria already. They have a great rapport going back and forth, insulting the other players, and just generally bonding over cattiness. Christy is the only one Joanna confided in that she may have to work during a lot of challenges for example.

That leaves the five fringe players. No way in hell these five are banding together by tonight, so it's a foregone conclusion that one becomes first boot. It's pretty much down to activity levels between now & tribal versus first impressions that will decide it.

I have to admit, I have a soft spot for Jeanne right now and I'm hoping she can somehow skirt by. She is at least here, and trying, but I don't think she realises just how much of the game is played in PM - or even just on the tribe board. Like she has turned up and signed in and answered a few PMs - but only barely.

Ryan appeared for a short while at the start, got a few PMs off including some that said he would be here for last night's challenge. Then promptly vanished mid-convo and never returned. But he wasn't lumped in with the boot-an-inactive train of thought formed last night so he should be safe for tonight at least.

Shawna seems to have made the least impression on 'the core', she's answered one PM of Joanna's and that is it so far. Daniel has had a bit of back and forth and is making a good impression with the little work he's done. Butch is the opposite I fear - he's over there putting in some PM time with anyone he can catch online. Yet Christy's pre-vote is for him in case she doesn't get back in time for TC icon_sad

This back and forth PM chain between Christy & Joanna sums up the current state of affairs nicely;

And at least we can count on Jeanne and she genuinely tries. Much, much better than Butch.

Holy shit. I just became a huge fan of both Christy and Joanna icon_laughing

You need to update your blog with conversations all season long. I've mostly been focusing on confessionals.

I find it hilarious that both Rob and Christy want Joanna as their number two and that 14/16 people HATE almost everyone in this game. Erin is too oblivious and Jake loves everything.

Oh the PM browsing is fantastic, but that's really the pick of them so far (on Asteria at least) bar Christy/Rob starting to get a little indepth. I'm compiling them offline for easy fanfic use later - we'll see how well I keep that up though - I moved house today.

I could nearly sit there refreshing the admin panel just watching all the convos flow past. All still a little stilted.. but give it a round or three and we'll see the real juicy stuff.

Yea I picked up on that as well Brenda. Butch seems like a loveable buffoon and they are totally picking on that despite him being there more so than 3 other people on the tribe. Poor Butch.

Butch is hilarious btw. Asking Christy for an alliance right away was HILARIOUS. He couldn't have asked a worse person too, lol. And now it starts. We can totally start to see the players coming into their own. LOVE IT.

Not too much to say about Helios compared to Asteria's write-up yet, only that they are different as the Sun and the Stars indeed. The bonding on the beach compared to Asteria's barren forum is ridiculously apt. Asteria is all about mostly negative players with a pinch of positive. Total 180 for Helios - the likes of Erin, Jake & Jan in particular seem truly can-do attitudes in motion, Penny's bubblyness is part-front to hide her schemey side but I like that in a player (BrendAus icon_wub

). Ted I guess is the only real negative persona I guess?

Neither Brian nor Helen are particularly outgoing and happy-spa-ish, but they're not overly negative either. They are the only real two engaging in strategy talk yet (with each other ofc). Penny is trying a little with these two at least, but her I'm-too-blonde-to-be-a-threat facade is kinda holding her back from getting meaty with with either. By the time Helios have to face their first TC, these will be a solid trio, with outliers of Erin, and maybe Jake?

Not all is hunky-dory on Helios beach though, there is a little bitterness over two players grabbing the idol clue (Ted & Penny, and they're both planning to get the second as soon as poss by the looks of it). Nobody is certain who did it, and nobody wants to kick up a fuss or point fingers publicly, so they're left to bitch in their confessionals.

Working from gut feelings, Ken is correct in thinking it's Ted plus another. Ted thinks Ken might be the second grabber. Erin is annoyed but trying not to dwell on it. Jake reckons Ken & Penny.
Working from the online times & lists, Helen thinks it's Jake & Ted (or perhaps Brian), and Brian thinks it's Helen (plus Ted :D

This hopefully might end up with all hell breaking loose if they have more than one grab the clue today icon_chaos

What might dampen potential fireworks before they can go off is if Helen's plan to foil the Prisoner's Dilemma works well with the rest of the tribe;

So, for starters, I didn't take the clue last round and don't really have any guesses as to who did. But, I am certainly curious (one, since it's a clue; two, since whoever has already or will eventually get the idol could be an asset to the tribe down the line).

Clearly, it's in the tribe's best interests for no one to take the clue. But, it's in individual's best interests to take the clue. But if everyone agrees not to take it, and everyone's being honest, we have nothing to worry about.

The issue? We don't live in a perfect world, and Prisoner's Dilemmas are generally effective. So, how can we outsmart the twist?

What if, as a tribe, we delegate someone who we find to be the most trustworthy. We'll agree to have that person, and only that person, request the clue, and then they'll share it with everyone else. This way, we'll still likely have an advantage over the other tribe (since we'll only have one clue-taker, and no one else has incentive to take it anyways) AND we don't have to worry about people selling out.

The optimal strategy is for no one to take the clue, but it comes down to, do you believe everyone else?

Also, when I mentioned this to her, she thought about sharing the idea with everyone else, and I asked her if we needed to share the idea with one other person before going private, who would it be, and she suggested you, so I think she's just as down for a three-person alliance as we are. But before tomorrow, we'll probably want to work on getting more numbers and do voting discussions.

This could be very effective, but a lot depends on when and how they present this idea to the tribe..

Once Jan is out of the way, I think the Helios tribe will go nuts. Ted is very sneaky, and people are started to suspect him already. Ken is rubbing people the wrong way and Jake just wants to hug everyone. It's clearly Penny/Helen/Brian that are running the show but no one suspects it and no one really has the majority yet. Still so much that can happen.

Love this PM thingie, if you follow it right this minute, you can actually see the Helen/Penny/Brian alliance forming. And they're starting to talk about bringing in both Erin (via Penny) and Jake (via Brian). It's exciting to watch from here.

Meanwhile on Asteria it's looking more and more likely Butch will be the boot. icon_sad

Christy is the only one really ready to actually front with a name, and for her it's Butch. She's pushed that to Rob & Joanna, and once there's a name out there, people will cling to it. Add to that a lot of people who don't want to rock the boat in Dan, Ryan, Shawna and it's looking like buh-bye Butch. Although a Jeanne boot might still happen since the outliers have talked to Butch, Jeanne not so much.

That's a great alliance. Helen/Penny/Brian/Erin/Jake sounds about right to me. Jake being closest to Ted could pose some problems for the fivesome though. I can see him sharing some information with Ted eventually.

Which sucks because Ryan is basically a sack of shit, right now. He contributes nothing at all. I don't know why Butch opened his yap about only being able to use his phone. Such a stupid move.
